Queen & Whippet - Events catered beautifully in Bristol and beyond
Four big event catering trends for 2019
We've had a great year at Queen & Whippet Catering. Now Christmas party season is over we're looking forward to putting some cracking events together for 2019. With the diary full of weddings, corporate parties and private dining we're busy talking to producers and refining menus.
Here's our rundown on the stand-out trends we see coming for our event catering in 2019:
Food & florals
If you've so much as glanced at our Instagram you'll know that we love flowers. We grow our own edible flowers in our kitchen garden at Q&W HQ. Borage, calendula, fennel, viola and our favourite peppery nasturtium. Next year we'll see more interaction with flowers and food - garnishes, edible flowers and table decor. Some of the wonderful wedding florists we work with already incorporate edibles into their table styling. We'll be seeing more fantastic foliage on our grazing tables and floral herbs garnishing our sharing boards.
Grazing & sharing
Talking of grazing, informal dining is going to be even bigger in 2019. Our sharing board menus are growing with more ideas for interactive dining. This year we've loved watching guests breaking the ice by passing plentiful boards and colourful bowls of salad around. Our clients have been really pleased with how flexible sharing is as a concept - it suits the tastes and appetites of all their guests.
Your menu, your story
A wedding trend that we are happy to see getting more prominent is food telling the couple's story. We're creating menus next year for clients who want to recreate dishes that are important to their travels together or how they met. It's such an honour to be asked to incorporate family cultural influences into wedding catering. We love to research authentic ingredients and including references to a particular cuisine throughout the wedding feast.
Keeping it local
Using produce locally and seasonally goes without saying. But making a feature of using produce from the specific area (or even from the venue) where your event is held is going to be big. We're lucky enough to cater in Bristol, Somerset and the Cotswolds, home of some of the country's best produce. It's possible to source your major ingredients from a within a few miles radius of your wedding or party. We often create wedding breakfasts on the farms themselves using livestock bred on the grounds of the venue. It's all the tastier for it and a great talking point for your guests.
If you're planning a wedding or major event in 2019 / 2020 drop us a line, we'd love to talk about how we can make your food unique and truly memorable.
